Background

Devised by dent doc and willvr, this is a driving/social event along part of the rugged and spectacular coastline that forms Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way. The route will take in parts of the Mayo and Galway coastline, offering up some of the most unspoilt natural beauty that both counties have to offer, as well as, most importantly, some of the finest driving roads that the country has to offer.

Date

Saturday August 13th 2016.

Road Itinerary

Arrive at Leenane, Co. Galway (specific meeting point TBC): 10:30am (Safety briefing, distributing maps, trip packs, last minute questions/plans etc.).
On the Road: 11:30am SHARP

Stage One - Leenane to Mulranny:
- Leave Leenane on the south shore of Killary Harbour, loop around the nape of Killary, tip west along the north shore and onwards up through the Delphi Valley to Louisburgh. Nip along the south shore of Clew Bay, taking in the views of Croagh Patrick to your right, and on to Westport. From there, skip north along the edge of Clew Bay, and then west again to Mulranny for a bit of grub at Nevin's Newfield Inn

Stage Two - Mulranny to Glenamoy:
- Cruising north all the way, you will have lovely Achill to the east and the largest wilderness in Ireland on to the west.

Stage Three - Glenamoy to Ballina:
- Hop north-east towards deepest north Mayo to the Ceide Fields, and along the stunning cliffs of north Mayo, then south-east by Kilalla Bay and on in to Ballina for the night.

There are +/- adjustments that can be made to this on the day, depending on progress/stops along the way.

There is also an option for a short loop on the Sunday morning before people head off.

Accomodation

Suggested accommodation on Saturday night is the Ballina Manor Hotel who have been offerring Autostadt group rate of €50 per head B&B with a €20 single supplement. It's a 4 star hotel smack back in the middle of town with parking and within walking distance to food & pubs.

There were rooms on hold for Autostadt which may be gone but call and try your luck. If you are ringing mention Autostadt, rate agreed with Anne-Marie & Lorraine. (096) 80900 These rooms normally sell for €85+.

If you need any help with accommodation in the area let us know.

For anyone who would like to camp there is an organised campsite on the edge of town Belleek Park or we can offer more rudimentary no shower camping if need be!

This thread will remain locked so that the details are always at hand and not lost in pages and pages of chat.

A Q&A thread will be opened separately if people have questions about any of the details above.

Folks for food on the Saturday night I recommend Dillons - https://www.dillonsbarandrestaurant.ie/

The bar food is spot on but it may be difficult to get a large group sitting together and not having to wait too long in the bar so I've made a provisional booking for 20 people to have the bar menu in the restaurant but would like to refine the numbers. It will be a set menu for about €25

Please add your name on the Q & A thread if you would like to join us.

Bad news guys. We are likely to have a magazine paying us a visit during the WAR so I'm afraid we just may have to wash the cars for the trip :)
