So, we've had the driving events, and we've had the dyno events, and they were a charm. But now the winter is in, and the weather is crap, and that means only one thing - manky motors, and we can't have that, it's just not acceptable. So naturally enough, thoughts turn to cleaning and all that goes with it.
Well worry not, thanks to Autostadt user DarrenJ, we present to you the first in what will hopefully be a series of Detailing and Polishing events. Darren has been quietly working away on this for the last couple of weeks (you may have seen the thread about it) and we're delighted to announce that everything is confirmed and ready to roll. It is a small event, and is in fact oversubscribed already, but rest assured, if this goes well, there will be more! So here's the lowdown...
When: Saturday January 28th 2017.
Where: Polishing Technologies, Castlegar, Co. Galway.
What Time: From 10am-530pm (lunch between 1pm and 2pm).
How Much: €50 per person (this does not include lunch).
BackgroundThe owner, Brian Spellman and his father Tommy, run the business. Brian popped along to Cars 'n Coffee down west recently and was chatting to some of the Autostadt lads about running some workshops, and the rest is history, so a big thanks to Darren for pushing this along, and to Brian for facilitating the event.
So What's Involved?Loads, wrap your head around this lot: Correct order when washing a car - Fallout removers - Tar removers - Shampoos - Clay bars/gloves - Air fresheners - How to avoid swirls - Waxes/sealants - Wheel cleaners - Upholstery cleaners - Vinyl/plastic cleaners/treatments - Glass cleaners/polishes/sealants...
Of course, this list is not exhaustive, and if you have any other questions, I'm sure that Brian will be happy to answer them on the day.
The approach would be hands-on, in other words, Brian would have a car parked in the workshop and he would go through the different stages of detailing it and allow us to use the products and to ask any questions etc. He also mentioned that we could steer the workshop - if someone, for example, asks about cleaning the glass properly, he would go through this and so on.
Didn't you Mention Polishing?Well spotted. I did. However, for this workshop, the focus is
Detailing only. All going well, there will be a follow-up workshop a month or two later, and the focus of that one will be Polishing, so don't worry, if that's your thing, we got you covered.
What About the East Coast Yo? We like clean cars too?!We know that, and we wouldn't like you to be sad, so an equivalent workshop on the East coast is in the advanced stages of development. A separate announcement is imminent about that so keep an eye out for it as the numbers will be limited for that too and you will need to get in early!
Who do I Pay and How do I Pay?Payment must be made in advance, by Paypal, to Brian at the following address:
brnspellman@gmail.com and the
deadline for payments is Friday December 2nd.
Note: Please put a note with your payment to state your forum username so that we can keep track of the payments easily!
Please PM me or one of the mod team when you have made the payment so that we can update the list. Payment is essential to secure the venue for the event so please try your best to meet the deadline.
What's the Crack with Lunch?Good question, most important part of the day as far as I'm concerned! Lunch will be at
The Trappers Inn, which is about 500m down the road from the venue.
But I Have Questions?Bring them on.
Lots of love,
DarrenJ and the
