WAR II August 19th

Starts in Castlebar Saturday 19th and ends in Ballina, limited to 25 cars.

Dent Doc and Mycroft have recce'd a brand new route which is different to last year but does include the N59 Mulranny to Ballinaboy which was much enjoyed last year. Details of the entire route to be revealed in due course but rest assured it has a bit of everything.

We will be eating in the same two hostelries as last year (Nevins at lunch & Dillons at dinner) and would like to confirm numbers as soon as we can.

Please indicate how many passengers you will have and if you would like to join us for food in the evening on the WAR II Q & A thread

As it's peak season the accommodation will be booking fast in both towns so we advise you to get your skates on. There will be people travelling from Ballina to Castlebar on the Saturday morning if anyone wishes to bunk in Ballina both nights. See the list below for suggested options.

Accommodation update:

The Station House Hotel are offered a reduced rate for Autostadt. Ask for Tascha and mention Autostadt. It is fairly central small hotel with loads of parking.

A little taster from along the route to whet your appetites

With just a week to go it's probably time we updated you guys with some more information on our run out "Wesht" next weekend.

Our assembly point is the "Aldi" Supermarket Carpark in Castlebar This is on the western side of Castlebar .N53 51.354 W 09 18.433.

The plan is to be leaving here at 10:30 as we have a lunch appointment for 12:30-12:45 and a deal of mileage to cover beforehand, so arrive whenever you like but we do need to have "Document Scrutiny" done and to be on the road by 10:30. 

Right beside the Car park there's a Londis Supermarket and petrol station with a full deli counter, sit down area and toilets, and for those of you that can't get your day started without your "Egg Mc|Muffin" there's a McDonalds next door too. Just in relation to "Breakfast"...If I might suggest...for those of you with a more "delicate" constitution, you might go easy on the beans and mushrooms when they're having the "Full Irish" in the morning....read on....

The day is divided pretty much into three parts. The first part which will take us up to the lunch stop in "Nevin's" (same place as last year) will cover close to half the total distance for the day and is in reality targeted at those that might enjoy a more "spirited" drive, (N59 Mulranny to Ballinaboy ring any bells)... hence the breakfast warning. 

For the afternoon part could those not from the west please make sure you have your passports and non resident visas and your sixth class English/Irish Dictionary with you as we will be leaving the mainland. 

We're heading for Achill Island. This part will be the complete opposite of the morning as we cover approx. 40miles of what is the "Real" Wild Atlantic. We'll stop off at various points along the way and there'll be ample time for photo's sightseeing etc.

After a short regroup near the top of the Island we'll start making the run for home(or Ballina and food in "Dillons" at least)....and we have a small sting in the tail for you.
