You're a madman. It's literally the simplest way possible to upload a picture.
I don't use it for general browsing however.

If the snap is not on my phone i still revert to photobucket.

Your pics are not lost or disappeared from Photobucket (PB) so you can still retrieve them which I would recommend any PB users to do so by going through their somewhat tedious process of downloading your albums from their site.

There are a number of tools available which can do this automatically for you and indeed take same photos or subsets and synch with one or more other hosting sites. These tools typically cost money ($50 ish) for a lifetime license which personally I think may be worth it as the time you'll spend downloading from PB is worth a lot more that 50!

The new host is a tricky one. There are loads out there but much like mobile phone packages they can be quite confusing.

Most charge either initially or when they get you hooked and you need more space. Most of them don;t want you "linking" pics and hosting them on forums. They prefer for you to share your album. WHy? So that onlookers click on album, go to their site where you can be teased with more adverts!

Most however have demo trial periods so I;d recommend picking a couple at a time and load up some sample pics and see does it fit in feature and function wise to how you want to use and interact with a host.

Tapatalk is perfect for quick posting of pics from your phone etc

I use Tapatalk for uploading pics to the forum - but only because it's the easiest way to do it (assuming you can actually find the correct thread to post on via Tapatalk that is). Apart from that I'd almost never use Tapatalk as I just think its a mess of an app.

Alternatives are out there, the likes of Flickr, Google Photos.

Actually Google Photos have a really excellent mobile app if you're looking for photo backup options. Really clever search built into it (well, it is google...!). E.g. it picks out peoples faces and you can do a search based on the faces, its pretty amazing how it does it.

I have started using Flickr. One problem I ran into straight away was that it seems to insert 3 URLs for each photo. Posts on Autostadt are restricted to 30 URLs, so a maximum of 10 pics can be posted per post. Apart from that, Flickr isn't wrotten with adds like Photobucket was.

Darren, can you post up what Flikr offers in terms of URL please so we can take a look?

I think using google photos is a no brainer. Photos are automatically sync'd from your phone and you have unlimited storage. Although they don't provide a URL to post a photo to a forum, it can be done pretty easily.

Within Google Photos, right click on the image and then pick "copy image address" and then add ?.jpg to the end of the URL. Paste it into your message on Autostadt and the photo will appear.

Hmm that didnt work...

This actually may be more hassle than it is worth. You have to open the picture in google photos, not just right click on it in the album. Then add the '?.jpg' to the end of the URL.

Yeah that seems to work Dave, I tried it there with one of my own Google photos and bingo.

Interesting though, does that mean that all my photos in google photos are public by default? I guess the URL is a bit indecipherable, but still... Or I wonder does the URL that I fetch for a photo have a limited time, e.g. will the pic posted above expire after X hours / days.?

A key feature photobucket has is the ability to select a number of pics from your library, link them and it gives you all the links you need combined to just paste to a forum page. This appears to be missing from a lot of the alternatives. Instead they promote a link to your folder so that you are drawn back into their site and....the advertisements. It will need a bit of further exploration.

Edit: Joe security or access on Google is also not too obvious. People need to experiment as you can have more in public than maybe what you intended.

Bear in mind I'm doing it from my Android phone.

Clicked on pictures..

Also on security, no matter who you pick make sure you understand how the Geo Location info is stored and how to adjust the setting to switch it off if you want to.

Yeah but the Geo location thing is kinda cool for looking back on old photos and it gives you a nice overall view of what location(s) you were in when you took your snaps.
I guess there's a lot of tinfoil hat stuff with security, etc... I try not to worry about it ;)

What are ya at, if your on the phone just use tapatalk :P

For the odd picture here and there I'd use tapatalk myself but when I want to post a message with multiple photos documenting something, I have to sit in front of a computer and use a keyboard. I hate typing on the phone.
