With the worst of the Beast from the East hopefully behind us, no better time than to look forward to slightly better weather and longer Spring days. Autostadt.ie presents Turas Bóthair Chonamara, a leisurely trip along the winding roads of Connemara on April 28th, 2018.

Image

An idea and a plan set in motion some months ago by Autostadt.ie member cmurphy, also known as Ciaran, with the stunning white Beetle on blue wheels, it grew into a fully fledged event that should set the year off in true Autostadt.ie style. So a huge thanks to Ciaran for kicking it all off, and thanks also to moderators Eoghan Liam and Darren for their support. Many hours of preparation ensued; road recces, note taking (Liam, we saw that diary!), meetings, mapping, more recces...the list goes on, but it's done, and it's ready, so let's get to it.

Limited to 25 cars, the route starts and finishes in the Gateway to Connemara, Oughterard. The day will take in all Connemara has to offer; rolling hills, plunging valleys and rugged coastline. There will be plenty of opportunities for photography along the way too, so pack your best gear!

We have a nice location secured for lunch half way through the trip also, so don't go too mad on the morning fry up! We will need payment in advance for the lunch so that we can confirm numbers with the venue.

As always, we will have a bespoke sticker for the event also, more details to follow on that.

After a day of driving some of the best driving roads in Ireland, we will be settling down for some dinner, good banter, mildly embellished stories of the day, and of course, a few pints of creamy.

More detailed information to follow, but if you're interested, we suggest getting your name down ASAP, as these events fill up fairly fast going on the past couple of years, and this one is sure to be another enjoyable and heavily attended Autostadt event.

Some points to note:

- This thread will be locked, and will only contain the fundamental details of the trip, plus the official sign-up list, to make it easy for people to find at all times and not have to trawl through tons of posts to get the information.
- A second thread for Q&A and general banter will be created. Let us know if you want to sign-up in that, and if you want lunch, and we will add your name to the official list. Also, if you have any questions, ask them there and Ciaran and the lads will be on hand to help you out.

That's all for now, let's get this thing moving!

Just over a week to go until we explore the winding roads and rugged landscape of Connemara.

The group will be meeting at the car park in Oughterard from 8:45 and leaving at 10:00 sharp. There is a Top filling station adjacent to the car park - this will be the only filling station until Clifden (83KM) so please keep this in mind.

Breakfast is available in Powers from 9:00 and there is also a deli in Top.

The first leg of the drive will take us from Oughterard into Connemara and through the Maam Vally. We will regroup in Leenaun before driving along Killary Harbour. From here we will travel back to the N59 and onto Clifden before making our way to the coast and Ballyconneely.

Lunch will be at the Connemara Golf Club in Ballyconneely where we have arranged soup and sandwiches. Celiacs are being catered for so if anybody else has dietary requirements please let us know in advance.

After lunch, we will make our way along the Bog Road. This will be a road and landscape alien to a lot of people. It’s narrow, windy, baron and a real taste of Connemara. Don’t worry though, the surface is one of the best in the area.

From here we will travel to Carraroe where we’ll stop to take in the stunning coral beach before making our way back to Oughterard for the final part of the drive.

Dinner is being organised in Powers that evening. It will be busy since it’s a Saturday night so please let us know if you would like to join us as the booking will be made in advance. There is a list here - viewtopic.php?f=13&t=21424&start=90

After dinner we’ll be settling in for a few nice pints of creamy and chats about the day.

Payment for lunch is required the morning of the event. It is €10 per person, and this also includes a commemorative Turas Bóthair Chonamara window sticker.

Please get in touch with me or any member of the Autostadt team if you have any questions.

Eoghan

Everybody with their name on the list should have gotten a PM by now. If not, please drop me a PM.
