Another driving trip done and we're getting a little closer to developing a good template for these runs.

Two mistakes were made on the day:

1. Wrong turn taken in Louisburgh as we initially took a different route during the dry runs but then decided to take the Wild Atlantic Way road without actually having driven it before!

2. Drove past the turn for Tully Cross due to a foggy windscreen after a stop so some of the final leg was done the opposite way, which actually worked out better as it was far more scenic!

An impromptu stop was added in Recess as some cars were stuck behind a horse box and others needed a toilet stop.

I've learned a massive amount having led the convoy and will apply this going forward.

We'd appreciate any feedback to help us improve these runs so feel free to add in any feedback below.

Thanks!

I left after Leenaun, so didn't get in the last bit, but thorougly enjoyed the day.

There were two highlights, the route and the organisation. Ye kept everyone together really well, and the stops were picked well so that everyone could park up handily and have a chat. Lots of time for car chat and photos.

The route was fantastic. Great scenery, but some great stretches to give it a rip too. Finny to Westport was great fun altogether, and not a road I've driven before.

I'll be honest, the grub in Westport was fairly average, but filled a gap for pretty cheap.

All in all, great stuff and can't wait for the next one. I'm going to blame the run for my lighter wallet over the next few months. Too many mod ideas in my head now with all the cars on show.

Couldn't see much wrong Darren. Route/Roads was/were first class.
Lunch stop was just at the right time. Not sure how many would have noticed the reverse loop around Renvyle/Letterfrack.
All in all a great day out...obvious that a lot of planning went into the trip.
This isn't a criticism or anything but i'd imagine the route is just about the maximum one might consider if and when further runs are being planned...
I'd like to hear what others might think on that.

As in the number of KMs Andy? or time or both? Be interested to hear this piece of feedback.

We'd also like to get peoples view on the Sunday morning. Quite a few of us met up, drank coffee, chatted and laughed etc but should we be making the most of the weekend and adding something even small to the AM of the following morning?
This may be more acute for people who have travelled 2-3 hours to get to the event and maybe want to maximise the effort of getting to and from. In this case even if we had to step back into Galway and go to some nice spot out Bearna direction etc?

TBC 1 and 2 were lucky in that it inherited a template that we are constantly looking to improve on. Each trip we pick up another few bits. We need to loosely follow a template so that other regions where Assembles are being held have the confidence to do something in their own area.

My one gripe would be adhering to the rule of keeping the car behind you in your rear view mirror (the golden rule of convoying) we all went a bit mad in places and i know near the start in particular i lost the car in front while keeping the car behind me in view, we got away with it due to traffic bunching us up again.

The wrong turn was covered well and worked out even better, although i bet your man you asked for directions from driving the transporter was perplexed lol

As regards food i would be up for paying a little more for something from the menu, menu looked good in that place. Say in future we were all to look at the menu at the start of the week of the run and pick a dish, that way the place is guaranteed 30-40 servings and we could maybe negotiate a deal for main course (I imaging most people would go with a burger etc) plus beverage for say 15e (just plucking a figure out of thin air) I know this probably ads another level of head wrecking logistics to those organising but just a thought.

Once again big thank you for the effort put in by everyone in the lead up and on the day.

Can't find faults with the run to be honest. Fair play again to all.

As said by Mike a few of us had a good laugh and chat on Sunday morning. We could have saddled up and drove to Roundstone for a visit. Then drove back the coast road to Salthill via Inverin , Spiddal and Barna for Sunday lunch. Maybe on TBC3/B ?

If people are happy to ask for a menu on the day I'd definitely be up for trying it! Great suggestion, and one that was mentioned twice so I will have a read through this thread again when organising the next trip.

Your thanks is very appreciated but a massive thanks is also due to the likes of yourself who drove across the country to attend!

Fair points Shane and Alan.

We had a fair bit of communication up and down the line of cars to try and keep the group together. Some of the sheep appearances and also a dog walker who stopped all cars in one section to explain the road ahead :) didn't help but the point about the rearview mirror is something we may need to just explain a bit more on next run especially to new people.

We've had a few comments on food this time both at lunch and dinner and I think on the lunch part the 1 hour break was great idea so we probably could have easily afforded to order from menu and still have loads of time. Good feedback. Someone also mentioned the idea of "while in Rome" we maybe should look for food places with local specialties - fresh fish etc.

That's a great idea Alan and I think we should at least have some discussion on this prepping next run. We do need to mix it up in terms of the routes we use and destinations to keep it fresh. Maybe come more southerly on next west coast trip as some people were suggesting again purely to keep it fresh but also to enable others to get the opportunity to attend.
